thanks for the update,

what drug is the current "given drug"?

i got a unit on a gtx260 (win7 x64 latest boinc and drivers), but i had to abort it as it was making my computer completely unusable with 99% usage.

Is there any way to make it less aggressive? like 90-95% usage or am I doing something wrong?

99% usage of what? If it's a CPU core, try telling BOINC to leave one CPU core free for programs other than BOINC workunits.

If it's the GPU, I haven't found a usable method yet.

it's the gpu usage

i'm still hoping for the new app that is scheduled for mid february, which should improve performance and usage :)

I saw that post but I didn't see anything that appeared to apply.

To run GPUGrid tasks on a Fermi GPU find the app_info.xml file and include the following,

<app_info>
<coproc>
<type>CUDA</type>
<count>0.5</count>
</coproc>
</app_info>

but my card is CC1.3 so I believe it isn't Fermi correct?

As to the swan_sync thing where would you put that in /etc/env.d/99boinc? I don't see the process for the project bouncing around CPU's so that doesn't seem like it would help.

I don't think that this is a good idea: setting it to 0.5 will push 2 WUs on the card but the video memory will be too small to support it and it will crash.

Are you using all the CPU cores to crunch CPU projects?

If so, try using 99% of the CPUs (basically one less core). This will free up the core and expedite the GPU task. GPU utilization should rise to over 90%

Vista is typically around 11% slower for GPUGrid, with all recommended optimizations applied. 5 or 6 hours would be about right.

56 shaders is not correct, but it is just a reporting error.

I tried it, it didn't change the gpu usage.

What can I do for the app to use more than 56 cores?

What performance numbers are expected from my card?

i just noticed this too:

# Number of cores: 56

that seems a bit small

I recently bought a gtx460 for the project, however I must say that its performance is rather mediocre. I expected fermi to be faster...

It takes 10-11 hours to complete a WU, with a gpu usage of about 74%
setting swan_sync to 0 gives about 83-84% usage, but still no big jump in performance.

Right now it is on par with my gtx260, is that normal?

Also wikipedia lists 907.2 GFLOPs while boinc sees 363GFLOPs. Did something go wrong?
