Still 3.

Did I do this correctly? On Vista I created a file called cc_config.xml in the C:\ProgramData\BOINC directory and put the text in from (edit) above.

The messages now have a note about being configured to use all coprocessors - but it only lists 3 CUDA devices.

Hi,
I'm got a vista32 pc with 2 x gtx295's but cannot get boinc to recognise 4 CUDA devices. I've soldered up dummy video plugs, plus the desktop settings are aok and on 4 monitors, but at best boinc will recognise only 3 cuda devices.

If I turn Physx off it only recognises 2.

Sli is off in software. Drivers are 185.85.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Far

edit: Boinc 6.6.28

Upgrading to 6.4.7 fixed it for the other one also. Strange when 6.4.5 had been working AOK for the maybe 3 weeks that they have been doing GPU calcs. Nothing was changed at this end. There was one power failure but how that could affect them in a way that boinc needed a reinstall I don't know. Altho one of the machines would only boot in safe mode and needed its graphics drivers cleaned out and reloaded to boot without a BSOD... Which is obviously GPU related..

Wow... The timeframe matches perfectly for when the power went out, and could also explain why both machines boinc results went whacko at the same time.

OK, so there is the possibility that a power failures when running GPU boinc can put boinc in a state that it needs to be reinstalled. It will appear to be running without issues and loading up the machine, but will be achieving nothing.

OK, cool I understand the CPU time counting slowly then, that makes sense.

Yeh, the machines sure are running 24/7 (the heat and noise is difficult to miss, not to mention they are also used for backups & I'd hear pretty fast if they were failing:-)

Host 25189 appears to be running OK again as of the last 24 hours - but then I upgraded it from 6.4.5 to 6.4.7 approx 24 hours ago.

Host 24362 is unhappy. Its been running its WU for 4 days on a GTX260+, and I have checked that it has been running several times over this period. I will also upgrade it to 6.4.7 now as well.

Should we be using the developmental versions of win Boinc manager for more gpu stability?

Thanks,
Far

Apols for that MrS, they should be visible now.

A Q6600 and a Q9450, both with one GTX260+ each (the 216 shader versions).

The CPU's are lightly (and stably) overclocked, the GPU's are stock.

I updated Boinc on one of them to version 6.4.7 in case that helped but no luck.

Can you see anything amiss?
Thanks,
Far

Hi,

Over the last 5 days the WU's being processed on my 2 pcs don't appear to be getting credit correctly.

They have both been running 100% 24/7 for maybe a month and there were no issues prior to 5 days ago.

A couple of days ago I aborted any unprocessed WU's cause I was thinking that maybe the reporting times had slipped and it was processing overdue WU's, but that would be unexpected as they are new GPU's. But this didn't change anything.

I don't know if its a factor, but in the boinc manager on the task tab the CPU time only seems to count up very slowly, nowhere near real time. After a WU has been crunching for a few hours CPU time can be displaying only 10 to 20 seconds.

Any ideas?
Thanks, Far

The P180/182's are excellent cases - the easily cleanable dust filters are priceless. But am out of space, so I have to see how much crunching effort can be fitted into a mid-tower area. The case appears great quality however possibly may require some minor case mods to fit power cabling in as well as both GPU's.

Thanks so much for all the information, assistance and suggestions.

The machine will be my first dedicated cruncher, but then I thought it's specs are surely going to be wasted if I don't play a game on it also :-) So I'll make it ubuntu just for the minor increase in points when crunching, and slap vista on it just for a quick runthru on crysis. The monitors 25x16 I'm not sure even this setup will handle full maxxed out settings but it will be fun to see.

I'll put the sli connectors on as suggested, but won't enable sli in the drivers when crunching, and will exit boinc when changing the settings.

It's all coming together planwise - you guys have given me all the info I needed re setup for graphics (will just get the cheap Palin ones), so now waiting on release of:
- the D0 stepping revision for the i7 920
- the asus ROG Gene mobo (so I can fit it all in a mini P180)
- the enermax revolution 1000 or 1250 psu to get to australia (>85% efficiency)

Then onwards. Thanks,
Far

Hi, will crunching work efficiently with 2 x 295's?

I am planning a new machine, but don't know much about sli/gpugrid/vista/ubuntu.

I am thinking about 2 GTX295's if they can be fully utilsed for gpugrid under ubuntu (I read thats the more efficient OS), but then also want to have it as a dualboot vista for games. Would this work?

Would I need to change SLI connectors? The 4 card machine as an example picture on the Gpugrid site doesn't apppear to have sli connectors between the cards?

Thanks,
Far

Thanks, I've gotta much better understanding now.

And will discuss finances with the "boss" re updating some graphics cards to give this a go :-)
