11) Message boards : Graphics cards (GPUs) : Missing credits ? (Message 11185)

Found it, task No 230975.....I hadn't realised that the list is not in chronological order, but listed by task number. It would seem the task had been sitting for a while before being issued.

I returned a result at 23:42 18/7/09 UTC. And no sign of it on my task list, very strange. I suspected there might have been another earlier in the day but can't confirm. Has anybody else had this issue today ?

I;ve just read the thread "Cuda 2.3".
With the introduction of 190.38 GPU's are seen as seperate entities with SLI on, Brilliant !!!

Is anybody else seeing this ? I've not long set up a new system. i7 920 processor, two GTX 260's, Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard and Vista 64 SP2. Nvidia controller shows SLI active, as does GPU-Z. Boinc is running two GPUGRID tasks, one on each card !
I am running the latest beta driver 190.38 with boinc 6.6.36. I thought it might be this or perhaps because the motherboard can handle SLI (Nvidia) or Crossfire(ATI)generically i.e. without the plug-in SLI module between cards.
Previously SLI had to be disabled to allow boinc to see the devices seperately.

Check your preferences & ensure that the"use GPU while computer in use" box is ticked (This is in the "processor usage" tab). If I remember correctly by default this is not ticked 0n 6.6.20 onwards & needs to be set manually.

I opened the NVIDIA control panel and found a section labelled Set PhysX configuration, but nothing referring to multi-GPU mode.

What type of graphics card are you using ? If it is a single card with a single GPU then SLI will noy apply, and can be ignored. SLI is only used to link the 3D rendering functions of multiple display cards or cards with more than one GPU.

The latest driver available from Nvidia is 185.85. To disable SLI right click anywhere on your screen & open NVIDIA control panel. From here left click on "set multi-GPU and PhysX configuration". Then sellect "Do not use multi-GPU mode" then click on the "Apply" button at bottom of window, this will turn off SLI. To switch on SLI just reverse process (more or less). All that is required to see both GPU's on this card is to disable SLI. No need to extend desktop. Try with SLI disabled first, should be OK.
I am running 64 bit Vista SP2 with 185.85 driver and BOINC 6.6.31 on an Nvidia 9800 GX2 (dual GPU) with no problems. I normally exit BOINC by right clicking on the BOINC icon in the task bar & firstly set "snooze" and then sellect "exit". I found that if I just exited BOINC then the tasks would remain running. The 9800GX2 is a hot card, which seems to like running at 80-85 degrees C. I have left the fans on automatic and have noticed no issues to date.

I rolled back my drivers from 185.85 to 182.50. With windows Vista 64 bit, Boinc client 6.6.28. Since which I have returned three successfull results, one of which had run for 30 hours on one core of my 9800 GX2 and gave me just over 10,000 credits :-)
So at present this role back on the driver is working for me (touch wood).

I also rolled back the driver on my other machine from 185.85 to 180.48.With windows Vista 32 bit, Boinc client 6.6.20 (Yes, I know :-) ). This has so far returned one result, plus another well on its way. I realise that neither of these is a large sample. But looks promising given the quantity of failures I had seen just prior to changeing drivers.

I will now leave alone for a few days and see how things turn out.

Task ID 665546 had been running well along with another task. As I was about to run a program that would "use" the GPU I decided to suspend all tasks and exit Boinc. Once I had completed my task I launched Boinc, all tasks appeared still suspended. So far so good.I then resumed all tasks, and task 665546 immediately went to "compute error". I also had another task 652947 that had been running for 29 out of about 30 hours and failed (different machine). When I get the time I will compile a list of the failures and successes over the past few days.
