I am doing a acemdlong on my machine, but every time I shutdown and start BOINC, acemdlong starts from zero. Is this normal? If so, how could I switch to a task that doesn't require continuous uptime?

No, it's not normal, Your task should resume from its last checkpoint, I can't at this point tell you the reason why it isn't doing so.

Is there a certain time in which the calculations must be completed? The deadline column in BOINC manager is when it must be completed by, however GPUgrid will send it to another host if you haven't returned it within 3 days. They use the results from one run to make the next lot of work units, so they are time critical. As mentioned above the 9800 and 8800 series cards are really too slow for this project, certainly for the "long" work units. They could be of more use on Einstein or Seti. The home page mentions which cards are suitable, mostly the high-end GTX400 and GTX500 series cards. ____________ BOINC blog
