My GTX650 takes forever and a day to do long runs.
I have unselected them in the projects preferences section, but it looks like they keep on coming into my system.

I had one that just slipped through and then my system worked on it a short time and then spit it back to the server and downloaded a short run like I intended it to do.

Is the 650 a middle of the road GPU card? It fit my budget at the time, but I found the long runs can take up to 2 days to run and then I lose credit due to the long run time and it also affects my other projects.

What is the next card up from the 650?
Does anyone know of a good tweaking program?
Maybe I can OC the card a bit?

I would call it a low-end card.

You should crunch for other projects on this card.

What is the next card up from the 650?
For example the GTX750Ti, but don't buy a new card until the present 10x0 series will be complete.

Does anyone know of a good tweaking program?
MSI Afterburner, or the NVidia Inspector are my favourites.

Maybe I can OC the card a bit?
Your card is already throwing "simulation became unstable" errors, so it's not a good idea.
You should even reduce its GPU clock a bit to make it more stable.

Ok thanks, dropped it back to as close to 0 as I could get it. +3
I'll explore what is affordable here in my area of Belgium and maybe drop some money on a upgrade.

Your card still can do pretty decent job crunching POEM@home.
I think you should wait for 1050/60 with the upgrade, they should be much better than cards available today.

+1. Most projects other than this one (very demanding) should work with your 2GB GTX650. Short WUs would work here but there aren't any right now. You could set your project preferences for short WUs only with GPUGrid at a high project priority and another project at lower priority. Keep queue sizes small.

There has been a bit of a task drought here recently and there is only 1 PhD student working ATM. Even when the next student starts it will take some time before they are up to speed. We are also approaching the summer holidays when some of the senior researchers may be less available/have plans.
While the GTX1000 series is en route it probably won't work straight out of the box, it might take some dev work behind the scenes and even when that's done there might not be much work. We don't know for sure exactly what is comming or when it's coming. It could be some time before a replacement for the 650 turns up. There might be 2 or 3 cards early on, with mid-range cards shortly afterwards or we might have to wait until ~Sept before we see those.

That's just my honest assessment of the situation. It's a somewhat unfortunate reality, but it's not all bad. It might discourage some from rushing out to buy new kit, when it's on the more expensive side, only to find it doesn't work any time soon, and AMD/ATI's next generation is also due out soon, albeit probably some time after NV's. When that turns up prices will drop. Also, prices are already dropping for GTX900 series parts. That will continue and some real bargains might be out there in a next few weeks.

Update:
I'm crunching 70,000 c/d on a GTX 650 (GK107, 2GB GDDR5).
By the benchmark chart, I'd expect it to be 7-8x slower than the popular GTX 980 Ti (GM200, 6GB GDDR5).

In fact it seems to be around 15x slower. CPU usage is at 5-6%. Hmm. Worth looking into?

The GTX650 is half the 'speed' of a GTX 650 Ti which was an entry level card for here several years ago.
A GTX980Ti should be 8 or 9 times (8.67) faster than a GTX 650 at GPUGrid.

Thanks for the confirmation. It's quite a bit below that expected performance, then.
