Hi.

Quick question.

Why recommend a version that doesnt work ?

The installation completes with no errors, but when I try to run the application I get an error and it shots down....

I have two machines running with 3 video cards on 7.4.36 now, and have also used the CPU beta app on still another machine (all Win7 64-bit). For GPU work, you need to install BOINC as a non-service. There could be other problems not related to the version.

Its weird, because I havent changed anything since last version.

The error says something about "ASCII"!?

..\..\src\common\string.cpp(1186):assert"c<0x80" failed in wxstring:fromAscii(): Non-ASCII value passed to FromAscii().

No clue :S

Are you installing the Vbox version or using any 'non standard' settings? I have it running on more than 8 pc's and it is doing just fine.

That could be it. "\src\" usually refers to some directory where source code is stored. This is not needed by a regular BOINC installation, it's already compiled.

Just downloaded the 32-bit version....

Was able to get past the error message, but instantly got a notice from Boinc, saying that: "Can't detect VirtualBox because this is a 32-bit version of BOINC; to fix, please install a 64-bit version."

1. I am not using VirtualBox.
2. I can t run the 64-bit.

This is very annoying ^^

Turn the pc off for a few minutes to clear the memory of anything in it, then turn it back on and try again. It sounds 'confused' by what you have been trying and is throwing up error messages because of it, shutting it down for a few minutes, maybe 5, should clear all that old stuff out of the memory and let you do your thing again with the 32bit install. HOPEFULLY anyway!

Well, it is searching for VirtualBox. That you don't "use it" doesn't matter if you try to install the BOINC version which brings VirtualBox integrated with it. They've got both download options since some time, with the one containing VB being about 80 MB instead of 8 MB large.

Well, thank you for stating the obvious.

I am using the standard "NO VB" installer. And again, pretty self-explanatory...

I am very sorry if I sound a bit grumpy, but its an annoying problem with, as far I can see, no solution......

Don`t mean to be bitchy :)

Thomas, what language is your system using?

There was a bug around using character sets like cryllic, but not sure if its still open or not.

Windows 7 Home Premium (Danish)
Keyboard (Danish)

Boinc version 7.2.42 (x64) works flawlessly
