Hmm, I wonder why all cuda4.2 tasks fail on my GPU. I didnt bother so far but the cuda3.1 tasks seem to be obsolete now.
The card is old, but not that slow (still crunched 10,000 credits in 24h last time it ran GPUGRID). Of cause it's happy with astrophysics as well ... :p

Card Name: GTX 275
GPU: GT200b
VRAM: 896 MB <-- suppose that's the problem?
CUDA compute capability: 1.3
Drivers: NVIDIA 304.64
CUDA libs: 5.0

The 4.2 apps are probably more error prone and slower on the GeForce 200 series cards. My guess is that one of the earliest drivers to support 4.2 would be the best driver change, if you wanted to try a driver change. However I would want to try a few more tasks first; you have not run any since 5days ago. I would also be inclined to check the GPU temperature and try to reduce it first.

I have disabled cuda 4.2 a week or two ago, so that at least some lone cuda 3.1 tasks can be fetched. I have had dozens of dozens of failed cuda42 tasks (some still visible in the results list), and not a single successful one, ever since cuda42 was introduced to GPUGRID.

Unfortunately many (especially older) NVIDIA drivers are buggy, and I'm hesitating to experimenting with other versions. Nevertheless, that's what gentoo says about available drivers:

[-P-] [ ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-295.71:0 # "stable", needs workaround
[-P-] [ ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-295.75:0 # "stable", needs workaround
[-P-] [ ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.60:0 # "stable"
[IP-] [ ] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-304.64:0 # installed
[-P-] [ ~] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-310.19:0 # "unstable"
[-P-] [ ~] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-310.32:0 # "unstable"
[-P-] [ ~] x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-313.18:0 # "unstable"

May try them from bottom upwards later, but I'm pretty pessimistic about that, as there have been several driver updates in the past and GPUGRID/CUDA4.2 has never worked for me yet.

Do CUDA 4.2 tasks work at all on the 200 series cards?

Dont know in the actual app version. But longer time ago i could run my 285gtx with 42 tasks and 301 driver. But it was awful slow.

Update: Interestingly, right after I got the first reply on this thread (requesting me to give it another try), the client pulled an ACEMD Beta WU for Cuda 4.2 - and for the first time, successfully completed it (after more than four days - gosh). Strange as well, I never had enabled that application, but maybe having the flag "beta applications" set "on" pulled it. Encouraged by that incident, I re-enabled all workqueues. I'm curious and crossing fingers :-)

Problem remains. All tasks in the short and long queue for CUDA 4.2 fail (both NOELIA and NATHAN WUs). I'll leave the beta queue running to see if more 4.2 tasks succeed there.

Beta queue tasks using acemdlong version 618 (cuda42) always succeed. Very strange. Doesn't long queue use the same application?

Updated figures:
Driver: official NVIDIA 313.26
OS: Linux x86_64 SMP 3.7.10-gentoo
Task running time (GPU): 20-24h

MrS

On my GTX285 a long run from Nathan worked fine with cuda4.2 but it took almost 27 hours to finish.
