The new cuda4.2 applications are now fully in use for Kepler and Fermi.
cuda3.1 applications will still be given out if you have an older driver.

I am using nvidia 301.42. Is that sufficient or should I be getting something else, and if so, where? I do not believe that invidia shows that series of cuda numbers.

When will you be shutting down the 3.1 applications?

301.42 is perfect

When will you be shutting down the 3.1 applications?

No exact date but there is a post in a different thread regarding 3.1 will shortly only be available for short tasks ... http://www.gpugrid.net/forum_thread.php?id=3057&nowrap=true#26193

Go to: Nvidia Settings / System Information / Components, to see the cuda version that is installed with nvidia drivers. Thats how I tell.

you have to adjust the overcloking.

The general methods of getting tasks to run smooth include:

Reducing CPU usage and improving system heat dispersal,
    Increasing GPU fan speed,
    Reduce the GPU memory frequency,
Change settings to reference (Ref.), not Factory OverClock (FOC)
    Reduce GPU frequency slightly,
    Increase Voltage slightly.

Probably best tried in that order.

The first point is no problem. The rest kills surely the possibility to RMA it when it fails within the next 18 months ;)

Not at all. Doing these things will not void your warranty.

In fact, two manufacturers, MSI & eVGA both provide programs to do
exactly what skgiven has recommended.

the 4.2 app does work your graphics card a bit harder than the old 3.1 app, which can cause the card to crash.

to correct this skgiven has detailed the things you need to look at.
If you only buy 'reference' ie completely stock cards that have no factory overclock, then you should look at the following.

1. cooling - create a custom fan profile that is more agressive than the stock one to keep your GPU cool

2. voltage, add increments of .025 (and no more than a total of .2) until your card becomes stable

3. If options 1 & 2 do not work, consider either RMAing your card, or underclock it.

download MSI Afterburner (google it). It's the easiest program to use to do all these things. It won't void your warranty (generally only custom BIOS and physical damage will do that) and should greatly improve your stability.

I run an MSI N560GTX - ti @900 and 1.012V and have never crashed a 4.2 workunit.

Then it's not normal. Your card should be able to run without problem. What brand is it?

Zotac 560ti but i read the thread about the corrupt paola workunits so i will try soon again and report if there are still problems ;) perhaps it had nothing to do with cuda42.

since this app update, I have been experiencing frequent driver crashes with the NVidia driver (both latest WHQL and latest beta driver for windows 8). I cannot run this project anymore as my entire computer crashes after about 20 min of running. I do not overclock, and I do have my other drivers for the motherboard and such up to date.

You might also run a cuda memory tester against the card to see if it's faulty. There is one called Memtestg80 which will test the graphics card memory. I had a couple of EVGA GTX460 cards that died both with memory failures. Both were returned under warranty.

There were also BIOS updates for a couple of cards due to issues with the voltage being incorrectly set, not sure if it was Zotac or not. You might want to see if they have an update for your card. Use the manufacturers website to see if there is one.

Application or system crashes?

Your latest errors are all due to bad workunits, otherwise you run really well.

How long is it planned to still run cuda31? Because i want to go back to 285 drivers for the 285gtx. It needs between 10k and 15k more runtime on cuda42 thats out of tolerance for me ;) when cuda 31 should run for some months then i go back when not i leave it like it is now. Thx for answer ;)
