Hello To All Of You,

I\'m new to the world of crunching with a PS3 & i\'m in need of a liitle help....

(1)...I note that PS3PF - Cellbroadband Engine lists has having 2x CPU\'s. But only 1x running Work Unit instance of PS3GRID is running/crunching away.

Is this right ?
- As with a quad core say for example running another/different project you\'d have 4x running WU\'s / instanses at the same time.

- Or does ps3 grid only give 1 work unit per machine at any one time ?

If my machine can crunch 1, 2 etc at a time then so much the better - happy days !!!

- If so could i say attach simap for example and have 2x WU\'s crunching away ?

- Ideally i want to crunch exclusively for PS3 Grid

(2)...I\'m using the live version on the usb pendrive Linux 2.6.16 - 1 -ps3f i have installed it as per trhe instruction here on the website.

So if i turn the machine off and then back on linux loads and carry\'s on into Boinc and carries on crunching where i left off.

How do i get the machine to go back into ps3 game mode rather than linux ?
Will boinc still crunch if im playing a game ?

About an hour or so into the work unit i remembered to join/attach my team that i\'m a member of and the workunit detached/aborted saying that i had aborted the work unit?

Strange......Any input on that one :)

Thanks in advance for you help and i do hope that the above makes some sort of sence !!!

Kind Regards,

John

#1 You can only run 1 PS3GRID task. The 2 CPU\'s cannot share the 6-SPE\'s, well they can, but that would limit each task to only 3 SPE\'s, This would not really make them finish faster. Thus only 1 task is able to run on the PS3 and effectively use all SPE\'s as the application is written only to run as 1 and use all SPE\'s.

#2 Try
1)Shut down linux and turn off the PS3
2)Pressing the on button for few seconds when the PS3 is already off will boot the game os.

or see the threads about rebooting at the kboot prompt, at the top of this section or in the FAQ section.

No you cannot play a PS3 game while crunching. The SPE\'s could not be shared.

#3 No idea.

I always go back to PS3-mode by:

Shut down linux (so it also switches off the PS3 entire)
Then I reboot AND reset the the PS3 by pressing and holding the "I" button till the 2nd beep.
I do it this way because I don't have a KeyBoard near the PS3 all the time.
Only downside of this method is I always have to press 3x confirm before I'm back in 1080p mode before the startup-tune plays.
Dunno if/maybe it's also good doing it this way to reset all the memory once in a while?!?!?!
