My main cruncher is getting bogged down by GPUGrid.

While GG WUs are running the machine becomes unresponsive and sluggish.

im running Boinc 6.10.18 and W7 64

HW: EVGA 4 Way Mobo, 2 GTX 295s 1 GXT 285

I hate to guess with so little info, but with 5 GPU cores running I would think you would have to reserve significant CPU time to feed them. Are CPU projects running? Also the NVidia drivers seem a bit dated. I do notice that your v6.71 compute times seem slow compared to the normal times for the GTX 285 & GTX 295 so maybe the GPUs are not getting the CPU resources they need. Many WU errors also. Can you give us more info about what's running on the system?

Im also running WCG on a Intel Core i7-980X, Boinc is set to use 100% or the cores 100% of the time, Ive tried changing this to leave one core spare (limiting Boinc to 11) but it still bogs down. This machine has only started experiencing this problem when I switched to the 980X, perhaps its got issues.

I use the exact same drivers and settings on an EVGA X58 Micro with an i7 920 2 295s with no problems.

What happens if you turn HT off? Also (but not a great solution) is to set BOINC not to use the GPUs while the computer is in use. I know, not great but probably better than all the failed WUs. Personally I'd try the v195.62 drivers. On my machines they've been more stable than either the older or newer ones, but I have nothing anywhere near as complex as what you're running.

I upgraded to 196.21 and although a bit shaky at first, seems to be going ok now.

One thing I noticed is i have 5 gpus using 0.28 cpus each = 1.4 + WCG using 11 cores = 12.4... could this be overloading my processor and causing the bogging?

Forgive the dumb question. How do you have 12 cores? Is that a dual-CPU motherboard, or do you have one of the new Gulftown hex-core CPUs (which I didn't think were released yet?)

I noted the same thing, on several different and lesser systems.

Just set the CPU usage to 99% - That way you will free up one thread - for responsiveness, and you will more than offset any CPU crunching loss by a GPU performance increase!
It's what I am doing. Not quite up to the same standard as your gulftown though; i7-920@3.15GHz W7Pro 64bit, running GPUGrid on two GT240's and 7 threads on WCG.

PS. You might want to restart your system and stick to one GPU project.
