Your personal background.
I'm a cruncher from the days of SETI and I have just returned. Im a middle aged Ph.D. scientist (chemist) and I'm a christian. I have done all manner of chemical jobs ranging from synthesisng compounds, running a lab, and doing quantum mechanical computations (using Gaussian and Firefly). I'm currently unemployed. But I like the idea of distributed computing. There are tens of thousands of machines doing no more than used as glorified typewriters, but with the capacity to do so much more.

In my spare time, I am working on using carbon dioxide to desalinate water and one day would like to work on converting carbon dioxide to usable chemicals. I am using computational chemistry at the moment to build up models to do just that. (I have had some limited success) The governments seem to be happy to fund climate prediction modelling, etc even though they claim regularly that the sky will fall down in a few years. But I hear the same story - almost noone is actually being funded to use carbon dioxide as a raw material rather than just dump it underground.

BOINC is a great development in harnessing under utilised computing power. I really commend the people who have developed the concept and the applications!
Your opinions about GPUGRID
Remember, a crunchers strength flows from the GeForce. But beware. games, online content, office productivity suites!! The dark side are they. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. Crunch... Crunch... do not... do not underestimate the powers of the ATI stream or crunch you will not. Crunch, when gone am I... the last of the crunchers will you be.

Nvidia, the GeForce runs strong in your family. Pass on what you have learned, Nvidia. There is... another... crunch... er.”
