1) Message boards : Number crunching : Question about adding an additional GPU (Message 22228)

The GTX570 is about 65% more productive than the GTX560 when it comes to crunching at GPUGrid.
Both cards could coexist in the same system and run tasks successfully; a Corsair 650W PSU should be good enough to support both (have one and used it to support two GTX470's).
Re:GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP, when both PCIE slots are occupied they can work at up to X8 each. Would still suggest you install the GTX570 in the primary PCIE slot, if you decide to get one.

Good luck,

Thanks alot for your help, it's much appreciated.

Now that I know better I'm going acquire a gtx 570, and have it running in the primary slot with my gtx 560 in the secondary.

Thanks again

Doing some more research it seems the 570 is far superior to the 560 for crunching and price. Can I run my current 560 alongside a GTX 570? or do both cards need to be the same model. Disregarding SLI capabilities, I dont really intend to utilize it.

Thanks for the replies,

My mother board is a GIGABYTE GA-Z68XP (SLI ready) and I have a corsair 650w power supply. The motherboard has an addition GPU slot and the power supply states its SLI ready. I have read that for crunching you need to have the SLI option disabled, when using two cards.

From my understanding though, if I were to upgrade to a gtx 570 for example, I would not be able to link the card with my gtx 560 through SLI.

But would one gtx 570 be superior to running two gtx 560's?

At present due to personal economic reasons an additional gtx 560 is probably what I will be going with, that is provided it will effectively increase my crunching power. Unless it is far superior to run just one gtx 570.

Thanks!

Right now I have a GeForce GTX 560 in my rig. My mother board has an additional slot for an extra GPU.

First I should probably ask rather than assume, but two GPU's will increase the production I can put out for GPUGRID correct?

Point being I would like to increase the performance of my rig's crunching ability, and am wondering if I need to purchase the same card or can I get a different card that is better/worse card.

Thanks!
