AMD HD7970 announced
(Message 27490)
Posted 4163 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi I gave up the hope for OpenCL-app since the start of donate@home. IMHO the question is: Is it wise to release an APP for AMD, when you can earn money from the performance of AMD at donate? That will canabalize donate, which is only a support project to fund GPUGrid. This question can only be answered by the devs. |

GPUGRID and ATI
(Message 20225)
Posted 4842 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi @skgiven: I apologize for my misinterpretational words. I wrote it "it looks like..." not "there is ...". Of course I can´t help you, because my experiences in molecular modelling are more then 17 years ago and then these calculations were on an very early stage done on an 80286. And I´m not a programmer, only a lecturer and very interested in boinc and the projects. I want to spent my power and energy in "humanic" projects. My thoughts were that from 2,111,537 boinc users (boinc-stats today) some have the knowledge to help this project. Of course akosh (I think that is the right spelling) was no gravitational expert "only" an interest user of E@H, who improved the performance of the apps. Now his optimations are included in the standard code of E@H apps. |

GPUGRID and ATI
(Message 20213)
Posted 4843 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi I’m not in the least surprised to hear that ATI support is insufficient, and I seriously doubt the merits of perusing an ATI application suitable to the complexities of this projects research. [..] Some projects have spent over a year trying to test and develop ATI apps only to find it is impossible/worthless. Looks like a real fan-boy speaking... Is ATI only a mathematical GPU??? By the way: Why not using external support? there are excellent examples in the history of grid-computing: Akatosh: Einstein@Home ClusterPhysik(Gipsel): Milkyway/Collatz |

No bonus on replication of 2
(Message 16227)
Posted 5129 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi Sorry! Snow Crash your right! My disorientation came from the run time of the WU. I had a WU with nearly the same runtime which had about 1800 credits more (s. here). But here it is a problem with the granted credit, not with the bonus calculation. It´s my fault, so please forget my last post. |

Anyone tried the superclocked GT240?
(Message 16170)
Posted 5134 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi I don´t know more about the GT240 as I read in articles, but I think it must much more slower than my old 8800 GT which is my companion to my GTX260 (55nm). Crunching a "normal" WU with 6.03 app lasts about 13 to 14 hours each compared to my GTX260 which needs 5.5 to 6.5 hours. It´s up to you, if the speed is enough. |

Fermi released
(Message 16032)
Posted 5141 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi One of the best german computer-webpages have tested the cuda performance of GF100, too, but they couldn´t get the performance like Anandtech. Only 30% speedup in F@H and Badaboom compared to a GTX285. You can read the results (in german) here. |

(Message 15901)
Posted 5148 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi I have two projects set on 0 without server-update: Einstein and QMC. I set the resource-share via BAM on zero and synchronized it with my BOINC-manager. It works for now I think three weeks without any problems. |

Lot of computation errors on all CUDA apps
(Message 15691)
Posted 5158 days ago by [boinc.at] Nowi I have the same problem here, but starting with collartz wu. I have two GPU (GTX260, 8800GT and so no SLI) and I get this error for all GPU-tasks from every project. It seems that BOINC coudn´t find a CUDA device. This happened without any interaction with the computer (user was miles away :-)). Is it BOINC- or driver related? A reboot will solve the problem! BOINC 6.10.36 NVIDIA 196.21 WIN7 64 Bit |
