if you like to "fold" some aminoacids/proteins with your GPU, you now can try POEM@Home and their new open CL app.
A the moment onlx Linuy is supported, Windows will follow. All ati-cards from the 4000, 5000 and 6000er serie are supported.

Yes, that was strange, the reason may be that they tested with a beta app of f@h, they got from NV directly.

in short: they got a beta-version of f@h from NV to test the new geforces.

so, it is NOT the normal GPU2-client distributed by f@h itself. I dont know why NV should do this, because the results are not THAT good as one expected. maybe because the standard f@h client do not recognise the fermi properly.
There should be a lot of optimisation going on before we can see real world performance on folding.

If you test a GTX480 or GTX470, be very carefull. it may kill your Fermi.
On a german hardeware-side they tested a GTX470 with folding@home

http://www.hartware.de/review_1079_16.html

In short:
during the tests, the fan turnt to max.(3000rpm) because of the great heat, and during th test the fan-control failed, the rpm dropped down and the chip went up to 112°C, followed by black screen and freeze. fortunately, the chip was not damaged.
So, crunching on a Fermi seems to hit the chip very hard, if you have no good cooling in your case you will be in trouble.

@GDF
can you give us a little teaser about the performance of a ATI 58xx card with the new application?
How do they perform in comparison with a, lets say GTX285?

maybe interesting for you guys.
ATI publishes Evergreen Family Instruction Set Architecture - Instructions and Microcode
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=NzgzMg
http://developer.amd.com/gpu/ATIStreamSDK/assets/AMD_Evergreen-Family_ISA_Instructions_and_Microcode.pdf
Together with the new SDK it will maybe helpfull to set up a performand stream-code of your application.

Is it possible to use a 3rd party FFT library?

Hi,
don't get us wrong, we do care, but unfortunately our complex application is not portable on ATI with their current software support.

gdf

Give Gipsel aka Cluster Physik, the creater of the MW_ATI-apl a try.
Send him the Code, he can than have a look if it is possible to port the code with Brooke/CAL to ATI cards.
Im shure he will handle the code secretly, so no 3rd person will see the code.
Just give him a try.

Posted 5463 days ago by Profile Sandro
I am right to say that all the problems are related to older cards, like 8800,9800 and so on?
Did anyone experience repeated failures on those workunits with a 260,275,295 or 285?

gdf

Yes. My GTX 260 running under 64bit Ubuntu also crashes WUs

Hi,
because there are some crashed WUs who crashed without any obvious reasons i will try to collect the error logs here so the project members will maybe able to find a solution for the "wasted" time ;)
