Ниасилил? :)

The problem is third party software solely. Being absolutely happy with Linux, I'm gaining tens of % in performance. Not bad at all ;-)

Thanks bro :-)

It's significantly faster for most Fermi cards.

I did not know that. Thanks :-)

Looks it worth to test all coming drivers to see if it really faster than 275.21. I'll continue to post results here. Let's keep fingers crossed that one day nvidia will manage to fix the problem.

Since it obviously works with 275.21 (for now), version 295.41 can't be stricly required.

That's cool, really :-) I think I'm not the only one who is (and other people - will) struggling with 295 drivers. Let's keep it nice and simple :-)

BTW, what's the benefits using cuda4.2 over cuda3.1? Just curiosity.

However, I have no idea what else could go wrong. Actually, as far as I'm concerned only one thing is sure under Linux: no matter what you do, there's always another unexpected issue popping up...

While you know what u r doing there's NP with Linux as operation system. It runs solid rock stable and damn fast - exactly what we need for crunching.

However, third party software can easily mess up everything. In this particular case smth definitely wrong with nvidia drivers. And you know what? it's not the very 1st time I've got problems with nvidia drivers on Linux. Over a year ago I was crunching for PrimeGrid. NP on Wondows: 99% utilization and fast crunching time. On Linux though it took way more time to crunch the same WU. The reason for that was that Linux driver could not handle the same amount of threads as Winders driver did. Thus my cards were idling a lot, GPU utilization was barely 50%. It's obvious problem on nvidia side, there were couple of topics on nvidia web site about that, I also send a bug report. But guess what - nothing happened: no reply on my bug report as well as that bug still was there months after. That's kinda suxxx...

And probably said with the same breath: "... but don't forget your security updates!"

MrS

That's exactly true ;-)

Uninstall it and try 295.40.

According to this topic:
Linux: 295.41 or greater

We're in the same boat :-)

I tryi=ed all drivers greater 295.41: 295.49, 295.53, 295.59 and even 302.07 - none of them warmed my cards over 50 *C. I installed back 275.21 - here we go - 67 *C instantaneously. Even crunching time - 41h30m for 57% looks really way too much.

Looks 29* drivers not really working for me.

I would put it down to the driver, or an incompatibility between the driver package and the operating system.

The only reason I can is is that I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with older 2.6 kernels and these drivers requires 3.0 kernels. But that should not be true:
1. Nothing like "for 3.0 kernels only" on nvidia site
2. I'm old school guy following "the 1st rule of good mechanic": do not fix what isn't broken. And I'm not alone.

So, in my mind kernel's version should not be an issue and the only possible reason is that smth wrong with driver itself - in terms of GPGPU.

Sorry, that's typo. Till now I'm getting cuda31 WUs only.

Clocks are OK (actually, I modified ROM and flash it with higher clocks/GPU voltage), also I'm controlling fan manually (using simple script and coolbits 4). Temps though are terribly low, what in my minds means close to zero GPU utilization in 295.59 drivers. Or I'm doing smth terribly wrong...

Nope. I was under impression that linux rigs do not need that. Am I wrong?

Check how ugly it looks like after I've got 295.59:

http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=103761

3 and even 4 times slower then on older 275.21. I'm not happy...

it's already there. I checked that setting is on just after I installed the driver.

It's under GPU->PowerMizer section though.

OMG... I meant - 295.59

I wish I could change topic name

new cuda4.2 app coming and 2 days ago I installed 259.95 on both my rigs running ubuntu 10.04 x64.

Now it takes 3-4 times longer to crunch cuda 4.1 WU. Also GPU temp in way lower against it used to be, so looks GPU utilization dropped drastically.

Am I doing smth wrong? Or if there's any workaround this?
Thx
