1) Message boards : Graphics cards (GPUs) : error 403 - No ID? (Message 22298)

Well here's the link to his posting - the rest of the information I have is via private chat... I asked him to take it back to the public thread.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?247370-Joining-GPUGrid-the-easy-way&p=4973380#post4973380

(sorry if linking like this isn't allowed... I don't see it in the rules so I'll assume it's fine for now.)

I did tick the tick box "While computer is in use" under the processor usage tab, before rebooting. I verified this setting did stick, after capturing the above log.

I wonder if this is a firewall problem or something.

This is not a DIY install to clone another machine or whatever. C: is an SSD. I installed to D: to keep the disc writes on the mechanical D: drive....I run clean energy (among other things) on this machine. Don't know anything about this "network share" that was mentioned.

I have boinc set to suspend when the computer is in use because this is my actual work workstation and I have to actually use it sometimes to do some work and I don't want BOINC to be noticed by me, or others. For the record, WCG has run flawlessly for about a month now.

So a friend and teammate of mine is having a problem getting any WUs from this project. He get's error 403 and his computer has no project id as the log below shows. Unfortunately no one on our team was able to help him out with this, and as this is his first time joining GPUGrid he was having trouble starting a thread to get help, so here we are:

3) Message boards : News : CUDA2.2 application will be deprecated soon - Update drivers! (Message 21236)
Posted 4692 days ago by Otis11
Just to be clear, CUDA3.1 requires drivers 256.xx or newer correct?

Also how will this affect older cards?

The fermi's should also become more efficient iirc?

How much longer do you expect a gtx 295 to be useful?

i notice them failing half way thu and some normal wu also.

Do you have your card overclocked?

What card is it?

What error is it giving you?

Just to follow up on this, I've logged my results for a while. On analysis it turns our the TONI WUs are short (12-13 Hours on a GTX 260) to be considered LONG_WUs but are claiming credit in line with what LONG_WUs should be getting(approx 35% higher than normal units) while the IBUCH WUs are in line with the quoted time for long WUs (16-19H on a GTX 260) but are claiming the same amount of points as their normal sized counterparts.

Type...............Total time..........Claimed/Total
TONI_AGG.....43,625.77..........0.81
TONI_AB1......46,400.62..........0.83
IBUCH_6........69,739.29..........0.61
IBUCH_7........62,840.91..........0.62
IBUCH_8........56,076.11..........0.63
IBUCH_9........70,151.36..........0.60
IBUCH_10......60,062.49..........0.61

Just thought I'd point this out.
7) Message boards : Graphics cards (GPUs) : Card Problems (Message 21015)
Posted 4727 days ago by Otis11
I have the XFX 260 (216 Cores) Black Edition and it fails tasks left and right. Do not try to run this card. (PS, its not the heat as it was sitting comfortably at 73-76 C. It can handle furmark until it cooks at 94+ C without crash but GPUGRID it just throws a tantrum.

Well, I'd say give it a try. I've been running 2 260s (One EVGA and one MSI) for quite a while now and rarely get errors even heavily overclocked.

I know a few other people have had issues with them, but worth a try IMO.

IDK if this is the same situation, but I know even on a contained supercomputer where nothing is overclocked, they have occasional errors... sometimes it's due to errors in the code, and sometimes it's due to unexpected situations in the science they are investigating. The first they try to prevent as much as possible because it hurts they're performance (just like it hurts our points) and they need more performance than we can give them, and the later just comes with the territory.

As a programmer I actually have to hand it to them. Programming applications like this is difficult enough. Pushing it across a distributive system just introduces more potential for difficulties.
9) Message boards : News : "No new work/too much work" problems (Message 20967)
Posted 4732 days ago by Otis11
Well, the situation seems to have swung the other way: there is no work at all for both the acemdlong and the acemd2 apps.

This is exactly why they had the low caches and short turnarounds... they have a limited number of WUs and need the current ones to make the next batch. Because it's all sitting in people queues, there is less work for us to do.

Just let it ping the server for a few minutes and as soon as someone turns something in you should be able to grab one.

Hope they fix this soon. In the mean time, lower your cache to .75 days to keep it about where it was before. With that you should have plenty of time to get the next WU before you complete the current one yet not stock up and make other people idle. If enough people do this we'll get back to normal operation until they fix this on the server side.

you are unlikely to get back more leakage power than an average fan consumes.

Tested this about a year ago. I just plugged a meter in and then upped the fan speed while crunching heavily. The overall power consumption was reduced.

Really? That's quite interesting... I wouldn't have imagined the gain would be anywhere close.

I'll have to look into that.
