There's a new prod-GIANNI_A2A-0-1 in town. Looks like they're significantly shorter than the GIANNI_D3C36bCHL WUs that we've been getting of late (with their ~43% error rate). Still, they're longer than any of the previous non-gianni WUs we've been getting. Hopefully this new trend doesn't force many of the most energy efficient GPUs off the project.

So far have 5 of these running:
The 2 on the 650Ti cards are averaging 2.15%/hour.
The 3 on the 750Ti cards are averaging 3.0%/hour.

2 of the ones on the 750Ti cards have now failed. One at 71,198.07 seconds and one at 49,789.48 seconds. Strange thing is that BoincTasks reports them as completing successfully while GPUGrid says they failed because the simulation has become unstable. We've sure been getting some rotten WUs of late :-(

There is a new task type from GIANNI (different from the very long tasks):

New - e4s30_e2s22p0f423-GIANNI_A2A-0-1-RND2995_1

Long - e1s80_s1-GIANNI_D3C36bCHL1-0-1-RND9194_3

These new tasks can use a lot of CPU & PCIE bandwidth, but they also utilize the GPU a lot and thus run hot.

Running one of these new task types on a Linux system with 2 of my 3 CPU cores free (an old AMD tri-core) I'm getting high-end throughput:

92 to 95% GPU Utilization (SWAN_SYNC not used)
36% PCIE bandwidth (PCIE2 X16)
988MB GPU RAM used
74C with GPU fan at 85% in an open case (ambient 23C)

While using 2 of the 3 CPU cores for CPU crunching elsewhere the GTX970 Utilization was ~85%, PCIE bandwidth was ~30% and temps were the same but with the GPU fan at 75%.

8% into the run after 79min suggests the task will take ~16h40min to complete - which is the right side of 24h.

They take ~9h or so on a well configured GTX 980 Ti for 345,000 Credits, so these tasks scale well on good systems.

Good info. There's another thread about these over here:

They've been around for about 4 days. I've had 5 of them. Two failed, 3 completed. The 2 that failed did so on machines that seldom have failures. Maybe it's the high utilization.

The other 3 (of 5) completed. The 2 that failed did so on machines that seldom have failures. Maybe it's the unusually high GPU utilization.

Because I was getting 68% GPU usage with other tasks, I have been running 2 tasks per GPU for a while now to bring that up to 87-92%. Because of these new ones in the mix using a full 90% themselves, I have set the GPUs to run one at a time.

I finally got my first GIANNI_A2 tasks, and finished them successfully today. On my windows 10 computer, the GPU usage was 91% max and power usage was 85%, which was pretty impressive. On my windows xp machine, the GPU usage was 97% max and power usage was 91%, which was also good.
