When Windows Update released updated Nvidia Driver 327.23 they also included WDDM 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3

Could the lack of this update be the cause of all the crashes and BSOD's? If you update all your drivers from Nvidia direct you may not get this update.

To be offered this update install a WHQL driver <327.23 and then hit Windows Update. You will then get offered above driver install from Windows Update so it can update WDDM and then you can install latest driver from Nvidia because WDDM update will stick.

I maybe wrong but to people who don't have this update and are experiencing problems it can't hurt.

On Windows 8 you probably wouldn't need and you have had problems on your Windows 7 machine. It also appears to be more of a problem with cards earlier than 6 series.

As I said I may be barking up the wrong tree. You can check In "view update history"

If you don't have a problem...great!

I just rebuilt the image on my GTX 590 machine and it seems to be stable now (fingers crossed).

I have not installed any Windows updates as of today. Simply installed Nvidia driver 314.22 (video driver only, nothing else) and long WUs are running on it now. I know it's an old driver, but it was the last one that seemed to work without problems.

I did see that WDDM driver update offered in the list of "important" updates but I don't think I will be installing that one again after all the trouble I've had and the trouble that others reported after it was installed.

and you have had problems on your Windows 7 machine.

Right.. not really a problem, though. Notice how all of them were on the same day. I had the cache full of POEM WUs, upped the clock to POEM-speed.. and forgot to take it back when leaving in the evening. Of course POEM went dry again that night and *bang*!

Going by Operator's findings it could be this update triggering problems.

Well here's what's been going on since.

My T7500 with the two GTX590s ran for about 17 hrs and then when trying to upload three WUs it experienced a typical TDR event event. This is after being reimaged and updating to the 331.40 drivers (No WDDM update though just to be safe).

So. Everytime my system experiences a TDR it 'poisons' any other running WUs that may have been in progress on other GPUs. That requires me to manually abort any other running WUs and sometimes I have to completely reset the project to remove whatever corrupted settings are left in the folder. Otherwise any WUs downloaded will likely have computation errors. This can cause me to lose over 24hrs of work if three WUs have to be aborted because the fourth one crapped out (or that GPU did).

I have again rearranged the GPU power connections and display settings to have the display output on the opposite GPU from what it has been connected to and am trying that to see if I can get a handle on what it is that causes the TDR events repeatedly. I think it is a power problem. It can't be a cooling problem since the system is water cooled and never gets above about 60C.

I have also setup a daily reboot to avoid the reported '36 hour Nvidia flu" that some people have observed.

So far, so good. But taking it one day at a time with this system.
