Just a bit more patience to convince the server to distribute it...

Is there allready any comparsion how much points/credits will
be created in using a GTX 680 for example ?
And how much wattage will the card generate ? Will it use the full 195 watts ?
Is there anyone who can tell ?

I'm getting all the beta's & I don't have a 680 (yet). They all error out of course. Is that what should happen on a 500 series?

Actually everybody with a cuda4.2 compatible driver should get it, but they should be able to run with it as in the previous application. You don't need a kepler to run this new app.

Message 24864 - Posted: 10 May 2012 | 9:58:36 UTC - in response to Message 24863.

Two issues; tasks sent to systems that don't support 4.2, and tasks fail on Fermi's.

Tasks are being sent to Linux_x64 systems with non-4.2 drivers, and fail.
The standard 280.13 driver with the Ubuntu 11.10 (Linux
3.0.0-19-generic), for example, will fail these tasks.

So you may need to identify systems according to the driver and only send Betas to systems with the 295+ driver, rather than all systems.

Tasks also fail on Linux 3.2.0-24-generic, which presumably has an up to date driver (295.x), when run on Fermi cards. If you intend to have one app for Fermi's (and CC1.3), and one app for Kepler, this is not an issue, but if you only intend to have one app for all cards (but two versions, one long and one short), the tasks need to work on Fermi's too.

Only Linux_x64 works at GPUGrid.
I'm not sure if you still need a Boinc_x64 client, as x32 clients support x64 apps (on GPU's I'm not sure), but 6.12.33 vs 6.12.34 won't make any difference.

I have changed the way the server handle it.
So now, only people with a cuda4.2 compliant driver should get it and minimum compute capability 2.0.

For a Win64 box, what's the minimum driver version needed for CUDA 4.2 support?

Do I need to allow test apps in the preferences?

And how do I avoid being given the older apps?

Is there a preferred BOINC client, as 7.0.27 has various nVidia detection fixes?

All this is assuming the windows client is available.

So I've got two GTX680's ready to go, so what are the minimum requirements?

For a Win64 box, what's the minimum driver version needed for CUDA 4.2 support?

295.x - Certainly 295.40 for Linux works and for Windows 295.x is CUDA4.2 capable, but this has issues, so I would suggest 301.x

Do I need to allow test apps in the preferences?

And how do I avoid being given the older apps?

Yes, and Deselect everything other than the Beta tasks.

Is there a preferred BOINC client, as 7.0.27 has various nVidia detection fixes?

All this is assuming the windows client is available.

Obviously 7.0.27 would be better than .24, .25 and .26 then.

There is no 4.2 Win app yet, it's being compiled. Maybe in a few days?

Regarding Fermi cards. This app will be for Fermi's too, so testing on Fermi's is also important. It will both increase performance of Fermi's and facilitate the new Kepler cards (when it's working fully).

Just configured GPUGRID preferences to accept beta WUs and not others on my Xubuntu machine (odysseusII home):

Xubuntu up-to-date (Linux 3.12.0.24 generic)
Gigabyte GTX 590 with 295.40 driver coming with the distribution upgrade.

Waiting for the WUs to come....!

Still crashes here.

Running Win7 64-bit with 680 card running 301.24 drivers

Checked my preferences and it says "ACEMD Beta - Yes" - the other 2 are set to "no" however it still downloads "ACEMD for long runs" along with some other work called "ACEMD2"

Gets as far as downloading the work then crashes with acemd.win.2352 has stopped working error

I'm using 295.73, which is CUDA4.2 capable, on a 2003R2x64 Windows system with a GTX470. When you release the Windows Beta app I will test against that driver and then update to one without the monitor bug, 301.x, and test again...

Hopefully some people with GTX600 cards are on a Beta only profile.

Tried closing and restarting Boinc when a beta was running (Linux). No issues.

    sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

Also useful for when Boinc tells you that your GPU is missing, say after upgrading to 12.4 and finding the cc_config file was replaced, deleting the delay!

No problems from turning LAIM on and off either. Will mess with a few other settings...

Still failing all betas here with 295.40 or 302.07 drivers on Ubuntu 12.4.
What happened to make those who were failing betas to get them working ok?

i bet it's the buggy boinc-client 7.0.24 you are using - upgrade to 7.0.27 and you should be back in business.

As you can see , no download since this morning for my GPU , what's up doc ?
Not crunching since 11 May 2012 | 8:47:20 UTC
Only Beta apps allowed in my preferences.

...
    sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart

Also useful for when Boinc tells you that your GPU is missing, say after upgrading to 12.4 and finding the cc_config file was replaced, deleting the delay!

...

Setting the delay in cc_config does not allways work. The best way is to add a 'sleep 30' or kess seconds in the /etc/init.d/boinc-client script after the 'start' case.

Quite right jlhal, and I did that:

Ctrl+Alt+T sudo gedit /etc/init.d/boinc-client

    start()
    {
    log_begin_msg "Starting $DESC: $NAME"
    if is_running; then
    log_progress_msg "already running"
    else
    sleep 6
    ...

Boinc 7.0.24 might have issues in the fetch area too. Maybe change your work buffer, suspend some tasks and hit update, or go for the manual download and setup of 7.0.27.

Odd that the Ubuntu repository 7.0.24 client worked better as a daemon for GPU tasks than CPU tasks, while the DIY download didn't fair so well. There are a few people not so happy with 7.0.24 being added to 12.04 repositories, and I see Berkeley are still recommending 7.0.25 for Linux too.

ODD? :|

boinc-central claims to be using LTS versions for testing only.

current LTS is 12.04.

it comes with 7.0.24.

now whom shall we blame?

It's only requesting task for NVIDIA

I just accepted Long Runs again to see if it's ok : 2 tasks downloaded for Long Runs.
I have switched again this off and see if it's downloading Beta tasks when Long Run is finished.
This time I allowed test apps together with ACEMD beta , may it was what was missing...

Just in case you missed the fact : I'm talking about my system (odysseusII home)under Xubuntu. The other one (odysseusIII work) is Win 7 running Long Runs exclusively and Boinc 7.0.24.

For anyone else, in GPUGRID preference you need to accept test applications to test Beta apps, which is what this is (a CUDA 4.2 Beta app). In this case you don't need to accept beta tasks, as the app is used with small (non-beta) work units just to test the app. However I would still recommend to select Beta Tasks, as doing so might allow you to run full test units should they arrive.

    Run test applications?
This helps us develop applications, but may cause jobs to fail on your computer yes

    Run only the selected applications
    ACEMD beta: yes

You might think one setting would probably do, but if a task fails it's probably not going to mess up anything else. An app failure might cause more issues.

Unfortunately I can't see other crunchers settings (I can only see tasks and computer details just like everyone else), so for anyone looking for help it's down to individuals to check their settings, read the FAQ's, post log files with settings and give as much detail as possible. Even then it's often a guessing game.

jlhal, I was pointing out to 5pot, and anyone else reading the thread, that there are still no beta's for Windows. I also wanted to post my logs from when I attempted to get betas on a windows system, so people will know what to look for (Requesting new tasks for NVIDIA).

So we will do a new Linux app on Monday.
Windows is still work in progress.

"Output file 484-GIANNI_TEST1-0-5-RND1103_0_1 for task 484-GIANNI_TEST1-0-5-RND1103_0 absent"

Just a guess, but check you have read and Write security for the project folder.

Might also be worth resetting the project if you updated the client recently?

"This computer has finished a daily quota of 8 tasks"
An 8 task limit for beta testing isn't really useful. Can this not be raised for Beta's on a per app basis?

jlhal, I suggest you also run short tasks, saying as you are testing on a Fermi. This should help prevent such outages, though you may still struggle to get a task for a while.

For those testing on a Kepler, select to only run Beta tasks (and tick the Beta app box too), as non-beta tasks will all fail on the Kepler cards.

In what directory is this ?

Done and rebooted , this caused the 'stucked' task ro disappear ;-)

How do I achieve this ?
Do you mean other ACEMD tasks (normal) ?

I think the GPUGrid directory is under the Boinc directory (where you downloaded it/extracted it to - often under the home directory), but I'm using the 7.0.24 repository client for Ubuntu 12.04 (/etc), rather than a manually setup 7.0.27 client. I had a security problem in Kubuntu a year or so ago that was down to folder ownership and write access, so it might be worth checking.

Yeah, I just meant select the ACEMD normal tasks.
If you get one let it run to completion and report it (should get reported automatically). That should improve your chances of getting more Beta's. After that let one run, and when you get a Beta, suspend the 'normal' task to test the Beta, then resume the normal task... If the Beta fails again, it's back to what's wrong with the setup. At which stage it's best to stop getting Beta's, try some changes, and then enable Beta's again. If you just keep accepting Beta tasks and they fail, you will stop getting more, and have to wait for up to 24h to even get normal tasks.

(134214655MB) graphics memory

any guess what that mean ? An error i think, but in Ubuntu and Xubuntu its the same problem. The avialable memory must be 1024 MB. Whats going wrong ?

That must be the reason why the beta app dont work.

Yes, its just Boinc misreading the amount of GDDR5 memory. Might be nothing to worry about now - I don't think its that cause of the failures.

Rantanplan, remember to run some normal tasks, or you will stop getting any.

I have just realized that a newer version of cuda4.2 is out.
So we will do a new Linux app on Monday.
Windows is still work in progress.

As good as the first sentence is. That last one does not make me feel good......

Keep it up, know you guys, and girl ;), are doing your best.

Whenever Windows is ready I'll have a 680 and a 670 waiting. Still in line to step up my 570

Side note: Once the 670 was released, my place in Step-up on EVGA for my other 680 went from 423->393 lol. Guess people were tired of waiting. It's still dropping "fairly" quickly too :) Don't plan on reaching queue #0 for probably another month though :(

Did what you advised for normal tasks and betas. Betas still fail. Normal goes to end.
I'm going back to normal and wait until some improvment .
Will retry to test betas tomorrow.

Guess Linux hasn't adjusted for kepler yet. Probably either 1058 or 1110, no matter what, you're running in boost mode for sure. I've OC mine 1291 and memory seems to max at 3250 for most 680s. Brought it back down to 1200, and 3100 for Einstein. These cards run really cool.

jlhal,

How can I post my journal ?

If you mean the logs, I would leave it; Gianni said there was a CUDA 4.3 release, and he wants to work on or test that on Monday. I guess if it's really buggy then we would be doing more CUDA 4.2 tests, but there's as much chance a new app will work at least as well.

In the mean time check for system updates and do a few restarts. 12.04 is very new and some updates might fix things.

It would be interesting to know if the Linux systems that work are all updated systems, and if the new installs failed, or if it's just a mix.

I guess it might be an idea to uninstall the NVidia driver, and reinstall it again.

wdiz,
Graphics clock : 705 Mhz
Memory clock : 3104 Mhz
Processor clock : 1411 Mhz

The reference Core Clock for a GTX680 is 1006MHz, and the Memory Clock is 6.008GHz.
Your times don't add up. Either your Core Clock is 705MHz or it's 1411MHz (unlikely, unless you have overclocked by 40%)!
If it's 705MHz, go into NVidia X Server and configure the card to Prefer Maximum Performance. I would also suggest you increase fan speed and keep an eye on the GPU temperature, using the coolbits option.

Of course 5pot could be right - frequencies might just not be reporting correctly (driver dependent).

HA-SOFT, s.r.o.,
Your GTX680 task times are a bit all over the place.
While you may have been doing some testing, some other process could be interfering with the tasks (slowing them down), or the GPU might be downclocking.

In regards to the clock speeds, I actually doubt we will ever be able to see the operating clock speed on these cards either thru Boinc or thru the stderr.txt.

These cards will usually start out around 705MHz I think, and can drop to I THINK 324 or something like that when not in use. They will they go back up to boost clock when in use (heavy use), especially crunching (will always be in boost). So unless GPUgrid or BOINC manages to "pull" the information while it is running, we will have to reply on the information given by the user for what operating frequency it is running at while crunching. It's actually kinda hard for it to be at non-boost top clock.

One way to tell if you won the GPU "lottery" for your card, is to see what the stock boost is at. For example, even though NVIDIA says their stock boost frequency is 1058, mine came out of the box at 1110. There seems to be a roughly 50MHz deviation between cards. If you manage to get one with a higher default boost, congratulations, if not yours is standard.

On the OCN.net thread with the Gigabyte 670, there were two different kinds seen. One with +170 and the other with +220. This can also be a good gauge to see how high your max clock speed will be at max voltage (1.175). For example, many people are reporting max frequencies on the 680 around 1268, while mine is able to get to about 1291. No matter what, I could not get it to go ANY HIGHER.

And yes, unless he's testing, HA-SOFT looks like it's dynamically boosting, since it's going up in pretty consistent increments IMO.

Well, i think that nvidia-settings doesn't FULL support GTX680
I have 4 levels in nvidia-settings (0 to 3) the levels 2 and 3 are at the same clock.

I tried the coolbits option but the only thing i can change is the fan speed.

BTW, my GTX 680 is an EVGA SC+

Boinc 7.0.27 (X86)
Driver 295.40
GTX 590

I just noticed that Boinc 7.0.27 from advanced distribution is a beta x86 version and not an x64 one .
Does it make a difference for Beta tasks ?
Normal and Long runs seem to run OK with this version of Boinc.
How can I obtain an x64 version of Boinc for ubuntu ?
Wher ecan I obtain the 295.49 version of the driver ?

There's not a single boost clock. It actually goes up in fine increments, depending on conditions. The number quoted by nVidia is the average you can expect, measured using many games and settings. The actual boost clock depends on temperature and power consumption - which both depend on chip quality, as well as the executed code.

I am certain the GTX680 isn't fully supported by the drivers yet; otherwise there would not be driver updates, and there always are. Most of these updates improve specific functions often in an attempt to improve performance on certain games, but occasionally the updates bring additional CUDA capabilities or improved CUDA performances. It's also possible that actual speeds aren't reported correctly!

EVGA say your cards boost is 1124MHz, which is reasonably high.

The purpose of suggesting you use the coolbits option to increase fan speeds was to reduce the chance of downclocking due to overheating or using too much power (cooling can reduce the power/voltage required).

Xubuntu 12.04 UP-TO-DATE (Linux 3.2.0.24 (AMD64)
Boinc 7.0.27 (X86)
Driver 295.40
GTX 590

I just noticed that Boinc 7.0.27 from advanced distribution is a beta x86 version and not an x64 one .
Does it make a difference for Beta tasks ?
Normal and Long runs seem to run OK with this version of Boinc.
How can I obtain an x64 version of Boinc for ubuntu ?
Wher ecan I obtain the 295.49 version of the driver ?

The app being tested here is,
ACEMD beta version 6.43 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (cuda42)

I know that a 32bit client does allow 64bit CPU apps to work on 64bit Windows, but I'm not sure about a 32bit client supporting a 64bit GPU app on Linux?

We are testing Beta apps on Beta clients using untested OS with immature drivers!

Well, i tried to increase fan rotation to decrease GPU temp but no effect still stuck @ 705
Anyway GPU temp is low 78°c and Fan @ 55% with my other GTX580 i was @ 63% and 86°c
So, i tried to use nvidia Beta drivers (302.07) no more success, GPU clock still @ 705 Mhz according to nvidia-settings
For your information the Beta work failed with this driver

This looks almost certainly like nvidia-settings doesn't know about your card. Kepler doesn't have a "hot clock", i.e. doesn't run the shaders at 2x the GPU core speed any more. 705 MHz and 1411 MHz is a factor of 2, so I suppose 1411 is not your CPU speed, but rather the shader clock the tool would report for Fermi cards.

This fits initial Kepler rumors, where the clock speed was reported as ~700 MHz, instead of the actual shipping 1 GHz.

Kepler throttles at both 70 and 80C, but not by that much. Yours is not at 700, you should increase fan though, probably to 65-70%

Here is a pic from NVIDIA forums to show the throttling in action:

Note that the fan remained at 30% throughout - well, except for the early blip.
When the temps reached about 70°C the card was throttled - You can see a slight Voltage and core clock drop at around 70°C, before the Voltage was 1.162V.

Any benchmarks that fail to manage the fans/temps should be completely dismissed as amateurish. Anyone that runs a 28nm GPU so hot (70°C+), with low fan speeds, doesn't know what they're doing!

Clearly.

They were just showing the throttling in action for this pic. Quite a few discussions on NVIDIA forums about how GPU boost is a bad idea, and how NVIDIAs "stock" fan profile is horrendous. But as I stated, they just wanted to see what sort of throttle was being applied.

Also, why NVIDIA chose 70C and 80C. Sine 70C is not all that hot for gamers (think if Fermi throttled at 70C), for those who don't adjust profiles anyways. Probably should have been like 80 and 85

Like Intel, they seem to be making more products for people that have no idea what they're doing. "Dude did you see how much better their IGP is!!" LOL

Thats one recipe for success. It worked very well for Gates and Jobs.

Anyway, the beta app runs fine here on my GTX 570 and Linux though I had one heck of a time updating to the 295.40 driver. It and the 295.49 driver hosed my X server about 7 times before I learned you have to suck on a red M&M while installing, not a blue one. How does it know I hate the red ones?

(my machine never sleeps/hibernates so I won't be affected by the bug)

Thanks.

I have to admit I don't know if the clocks are stock or not. I have never OC'd it but I think Asus may have? The nvidia-settings utility says:

Graphics: 742 MHz
Memory: 1900 MHz
Processor: 1484 MHz
PCIe link width: x16
PCIe Link Speed: 5.0 GT/s
Fan Speed: 85%
Temp: 41 C

It's on a low end Asus P8 H67-M EVO mobo.

The temp is pretty low because the machine is outdoors and it's about 12 C outdoors right now (evening). It'll get up to 58 or 60 C in the daytime.

It runs on Linux which I have heard runs the science app faster than Windows. Maybe that's what gives the nice run times. It makes up for other projects whose app runs slower on Linux.

Just a driver note:
Boinc 7.0.26(x64) reports that my NVidia 295.73 driver for Windows supports CUDA4.2,
GeForce GTX 470 (driver version 295.73, CUDA version 4.20, compute capability 2.0, 1280MB, 1203MB available, 1219 GFLOPS peak)

however NVidia Control Panel says,
NVCUDA.DLL 6.14.12.9573 NVIDIA CUDA 4.1.1 driver

Control Panel also said the 296.10 driver was CUDA 4.1.1.

The 301.24 driver is reported as being 4.2.1 by NVidia but as 4.20 by Boinc.
Ditto for the 301.32 driver (which causes my monitor to auto-adjust repeatedly).

Same with Boinc 7.0.27(x64)
GeForce GTX 470 (driver version 301.32, CUDA version 4.20, compute capability 2.0, 1280MB, 1174MB available, 1219 GFLOPS peak)
OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTX 470 (driver version 301.32, device version OpenCL 1.1 CUDA, 1280MB, 1174MB available)

You're seeing weird version numbers too, huh? I tried installing the 295.49 drive on Linux and when I rebooted I got:

ERROR: API mismatch: the NVIDIA kernel module has version 295.40, but this NVIDIA driver component has version 295.49

The boot stopped dead at that point.

Seems like NVIDIA got some version numbers wrong or something. Another odd thing is that their site claims the Linux 295.49 driver is more recent than the 302.07. The former is dated May 3/12, the latter May 2/12 according to http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_amd64_display_archive.html. It shakes my confidence in them to the point where I'll stay with 295.40, which is good enough for the beta app, until the next driver release.

Same at GeForce:

    Version 295.49
Release Date Thu May 03, 2012
    Operating System Linux 64-bit
    Language English (US)
    File Size 55.81 MB

Maybe they mixed up 05/03/2012 with 03/05/2012 (US vs UK), or they went back to 295.40 and made an update to that release version?

I used the Ubuntu repository version 295.40 and the same for Boinc (7.0.24 running as a daemon). It worked, despite the black screens and resets, so I'm leaving good enough alone.

- Actually, 302.07 is a Beta while 295.49 is a standard release.

I'm not sure where you're getting black screens and needing resets. Are you aware there is a problem with BOINC 7.0.24 from Ubuntu 12.04 repository? Could that be causing the black screens? A temporary solution is given in http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67864&nowrap=true#1229806. Their 7.0.27 works fine here.

I upgraded from 11.10 and had to reinstall the driver (Ubuntu repo). When I rebooted it went to a black screen a few times, restarted itself a couple of times and I had to manually click the reset button a few times. I've installed updates since then, and I might have removed the driver and reinstalled it again (this fixed similar issues in the past). All seems to be well for now, so I will leave it be, but if things start playing up again I will apply said fix, thanks.

Seems to, I let exactly 20 of the beta tasks run with stock settings and they all validated:
http://www.gpugrid.net/results.php?hostid=120909&offset=0&show_names=0&state=0&appid=21

Tell me, if you can use the link, please!

Win 7 Pro x64, i7 870 @2.93GHz, ASUS P7P55D-E, 16GB Corsair Vengeance LP and most important two Gigabyte NVidia GeForce GTX 680 OC 2GB and Forceware 301.24. BOINC 7.0.27 x64.

Runtimes around 60 seconds, as you can see, load was around 80% when tasks were running.

Anyone of those having problems ever thought about upgrading BOINC to latest from http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl, perhaps?

BTW it is working good also on a GTX480 @825 core with ForceWare 296.10 under Win 7 Pro x64. :)

W7 Home Premium on both & SAME CLOCKS and same drivers 301.40:

i7 3820@4.3, 680@1200 w/ memory@3100 running 7 WCG tasks= GPU utilization at 85% averaging around 64 seconds. When running 0 WCG tasks, GPU utilization at 91%=60s

i7 2500k@4.2, 670@1200 w/ memory@3100 running 3 WCG tasks= GPU utilization at 90% averaging around 65s

So clock for clock at same GPU utilization and roughly same CPU clocks, the 670, on these betas, and at both 90%, the difference is around -10%.

EDIT: Managed to get 2 energies have become nan while OCing, to see how fast I could get them. What's interesting is that nothing changed in runtimes, seemed to hit a wall at 57-58 seconds on mine. I prefer leaving these cards around 1200 anyways. But no problems here, good job guys

Suspend/resume works fine (20% and 80% checkpoints as on Linux). Also stopped it ran another task, resumed... No problems thus far.

Looks like a GTX670 on W7 is on par with a GTX570 OC on WinXP_x86.

Also just tried them on the 302.59 drivers, which have support for CUDA 5, and they worked perfectly. Roughly same speeds

I received some new beta-wu 6.43.

They all causes all other boinc-mgr-jobs to start all over again.

As far as Windows drivers go, I can say that I have had no issues MYSELF with either 301.40 and 302.59 (alpha CUDA 5 dev driver). I have not had any issues with any driver in the 301.xx range for Einstein@home either for my 670&680.

NVIDIA is supposed to be releasing a new WHQL very soon, possibly before the real app is released for this project. If a WHQL or new beta is released before then, I will try it and post results.

I have noticed my computer is very unresponsive when running the Beta units. Win 7 x64, GTX570, 301.25 nvidia driver, 3770k CPU, Sabertooth X77 Motherboard.
Besided the slowdown beta is running great on my system. Over 300 of them now last i looked.

Whatever works!

For GTX600 cards on Windows I suggest 301.34 or above. I think drivers prior to these do not support the GTX690 and GTX670. These drivers support CUDA 4.2.1.

For GTX600 cards on Linux I suggest 295.53. This driver supports the following cards:
GeForce GTX 690, GTX 680, GTX 670, GT 645, GT 640, GT 630, and lesser non-recommended cards.

For GTX500/GTX400 cards, just whatever is stable for you and supports CUDA 4.2. Actually the 295 and 296 drivers only support CUDA 4.1.1 but have been demonstrated to run these Beta's. 296.10 is WHQL, but that stamp is pretty much meaningless. So I would recommend a more recent driver. On XPx64 with a GTX470 I have tested everything from a 295 driver up to 301.34, and the tasks all ran. There may however be issues with some of these drivers, and I have noticed glitchy performance related to the GPU downclocking during periods of non-crunching.

On Linux I was able to run the Beta's using 295.40 (Ubuntu 12.04 repository, Boinc daemon install) on a GTX470, but others expressed problems with that Boinc setup. Anyway, that driver and up supports the Beta app.

Running GTX 680 using Nvidia 301.24 drivers on Win7 Pro 64-bit.

Managed to successfully download and run some ACEMD beta version 6.43 work.

One question GDF:

I know that these are just beta test apps, but will the production apps be running at this high of a GPU usage % on W7. Think the highest I've seen on current apps is Paola's which run around 83% max on my rigs. However these betas operate around 91-92% on 680. Not that I mind the extra usage, but the system does become rather unresponsive (much slower anyways), compared to the previous CUDA 3.1

Thanks, and keep up the great work. Seems Windows beta went of VERY WELL. Linux with only a small hiccup it would appear. Good job!!

The GPUGrid team run different work units based on the same apps. The different tasks are usually named after the different researchers. While the research is very similar, they are looking at different molecules, with different sizes, affinities and so on. It's inevitable that there will be variation in GPU utilization, power requirements, CPU usage and so on. I'm presently seeing 98% GPU utilization on PAOLA tasks but usually see over 80%. On Vista/W7 it's typically less than this.

You see my thoughts. While testing Win app, it should be nice to release Linux CUDA4.2 app to production.

It would be nice to release also the CUDA4.2 Windows application to production, since it's not just supporting the GTX6xx cards, but 15% faster on older cards too.
You can release the CUDA4.0 application later, to support older (CC1.3) cards, until then they can run the CUDA3.1 app.

I'm still getting cuda40 beta tasks instead of cuda42 beta tasks.

When should I enable normal tasks for my GTX 680 so they won't crash?
