Message 20030 - Posted: 25 Dec 2010 | 13:26:42 UTC

I have 1 Box the Project refuses to give work to, it's has the sane Video Cards (GTX 570's) same drivers and BOINC Client (263.09 & 6.10.58) as all my other Computers that the Project gives work to but I keep getting the same Message on that Box:

12/25/2008 8:09:35 AM GPUGRID Message from server: No work sent
12/25/2008 8:09:35 AM GPUGRID Message from server: ACEMD beta version is not available for your type of computer.

The Computer that can't get work is HERE, it did get 4 Wu's at first but promptly errored them out for some reason and now won't give it any more new work. The error it gave for 4 of the Wu's was:

<core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version>
<![CDATA[
<message>
Incorrect function. (0x1) - exit code 1 (0x1)
</message>
]]>

I Attached & Detached to the Project several times already with no success in getting more work to the Box to see if the problem was fixed.

Your failed tasks made your failing host "blacklisted" for the time being. You can't do anything about it, just wait a couple of hours.

I thought maybe that could be the Problem, still getting the same Message 3 Hour's later though. May have to wait until the New Day Begins ...

Steve, do a system restart, just in case there is something system related that is causing immediate failures (this is often the case).
It can sometimes take 24h before you get another task. When you have lots of task returns the number of errors you are allowed before you stop picking up tasks rises to 20, but if it is a newly attached system it is less.

Already did the System Restart after the 1'st 4 Wu's erred out but haven't been able to get more yet, it's running PG with GPUGrid set to ask for new work so no big deal. Don't know why the 1'st 4 Wu's crashed though, 1'st Box they did that on, had been running all the GPU Projects before ...

Looks like I got 2 More Wu's to the Computer http://www.gpugrid.net/show_host_detail.php?hostid=90200 which promptly erred out. Shut new work of to the Box because I don't have a clue why they won't run on it, there's no OC'ing of the CPU or GPU at all and the Box run's all the other GPU Projects okay but not this one.

I try Driver re-installs tomorrow & see if it will run the Wu's if that don't fix it then it just won't be running GPUGrid I guess ...

Haven't been able to get work to this host for over 36 Hr's now: http://www.gpugrid.net/show_host_detail.php?hostid=90200

12/28/2008 6:33:55 AM GPUGRID Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
12/28/2008 6:33:55 AM GPUGRID Message from server: No work sent
12/28/2008 6:33:55 AM GPUGRID Message from server: ACEMD beta version is not available for your type of computer.

Good way to drive Hosts away fron the Project by making them wait so long after just a few error's ...

The 263.xx drivers were there to support the GTX570. They are not listed for XP x64. The recommended driver for a GTX460 on XP x64 is the 260.90 version. You can get them from nvidia

When you reinstall the drivers do a clean install, that way it will remove the remmnants of the older (or newer) driver. You don't need the 3D vision or the HD sound components. After reinstall reboot the machine. It may not need to do it at the end but its a good idea anyway. After install and reboot go into the nvidia control panel and disable multi-gpu mode.

Also in your BOINC messages, check its asking for NVIDIA GPU work as it will ask for CPU work, which this project doesn't have (and then you get the stupid message about having the wrong sort of card). The GTX460's do work but aren't particularly fast.

Any more problems post the BOINC startup messages (the one about card gflops) and the work request (type and response).

I did use the 260.99 Drivers to start out with but got the errors with them too. So I was trying the 263.06 Drivers because they are a Development Driver with the 3.2 CUDA or at least that's what I thought I read about them anyway. The 263.06 Drivers & GTX 460 combination work on other GPU Projects (Collatz-DNET-Milkyway)

I did get 2 Wu's about 38 Hr's ago with the 263.06 Drivers installed but the Wu's failed with them too upon starting the Wu's up. I know the 460's aren't particulally fast as I have ran a few on them already on a different Box but I'm trying to figure out why this Box won't run them with either the 460's or the 570's which I had in the Box 1'st. But it takes so long to get more Wu's to see if any changes made work or not ... This is what I get now when requesting work after 39-40 Hr's since the last 2 Wu's erred out.

Same thing with a clean install of 260.99 Drivers: Just have 1 card in now, wanted to see if the Wu's would run with only 1 Card.

Did you disable multi-GPU mode in the nvidia control panel (when you had 2 cards in it)?

As you can see from above its asking for CPU work. GPUgrid doesn't have any. It needs to ask for Nvidia GPU work before it will get anything.

Its probably backed off. In BOINC manager, click the Projects tab select GPUgrid and then click on the properties button. Scoll down the popup box and it will tell you if its backed off and for how long.

Have the Box running 2 Wu's now, after trying everything else on the Hardware side I decided to take a look at the NET 4 Installation I did a few weeks ago. I had 1 Box that the Installation didn't go so well on but couldn't remember which one it was. With the trouble I was having with the Box I figured it might be this one.

I tried a repair on the NET 4 Installation & it wouldn't finish the Repair of it so I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it. This time the Installation went okay and the GPUGrid Wu's started up and continued running. I'll finish them over night probably ... :)
