While happy with my MSI GTX460 Cyclone SOC 1GB, any thoughts on the validity/performance in GPUGRID computing for this product:

http://wccftech.com/2010/11/14/nvidia-geforce-gtx-570-gtx-560-released/

Another card which is likely to be available early next year is the GTX 560 which will replace the much successful GTx 460 GPU based on the GF-104 Core. The new GPU Core will be the GF-114 and will also be a refined version of the previous generation core. The GF-104 Core itself was a vast improvement over the GF-100 Core which resulted in much better performance while utilizing lower power and resulting in lower temps. Same would be with the new Core. All of the eight 48-core SMs will be enabled on the card which will provide 384 Cuda Cores as compared to the 336 of the GTX 460.

I was considering adding a second GTX460 now, but this may be worth waiting for in improved performance. Thoughts? Pricing/market impact/purchase timing?

A GTX560 is supposed to be released next week, 25th Jan.

Just remember at GPUGrid a GTX470 would do 30% more work and a GTX480 would do 60% more than a GTX560. So for now, those primarily looking to get an NVidia GPU to crunch at GPUGrid should still be thinking of a GTX570. Note there will be lots of variation for this card. If the GTX570 is too expensive, wait; prices will eventually fall. Along with ATI competition, the GTX560 and planned GTX590 (at least by one GPU manufacturer) should help drive the GTX570 prices down and I'm still hoping a GTX565 will turn up.

They are out now, although stock may be limited to start with. Pricing looks like arouund $210 (AUD).

Palit have a sonic edition (factory OC'ed) that has a dual fan solution, rather than the reference design. Link here

They are using the GF114 which is a new chip, so no idea how they go at GPUgrid work. Spec's wise they look quite impressive for the price. They have a 256 bit memory controller, 1Gb RAM, 384 cuda cores (aka shaders) with 32 SM's. Anyone tried one on here on here yet?

I expect 1/3 of the shaders will not be usable, as with the GTX460. Ignoring any other changes and just going by frequency and shader count a GTX560 should be about 40% faster than a GTX460; (384/336)X(822/675)x100%=1.3917
The TDP is 170W, 20W higher than the GTX460-768

Unlike the 460 they have the same SM to shader ratio as a GTX570, so they should actually be usable. But until someone runs GPUgrid on it we'll never know for sure.

The Palit card I referred to has the thing clocked higher (900Mhz) than a GTX570 reference design, that should make up a bit for lack of shaders. That and we're comparing a GF114 with a GF110, so its like comparing apples with oranges.

Gigabyte also have a factory OC'ed GTX560 Ti SOC that is clocked at 1000Mhz, again with a dual fan cooling solution. Uses 195w at full load.

While I speculate on reference design performance to some extent, what we have known for some time is that the GTX560 has 384 cuda cores (shaders) but only 8 SMs, giving it a 48/1 ratio, the same ratio as the GTX460 (7 SMs), GTS450 (4 SMs) and numerous GT400 OEM cards (from 3 SMs down to 1); so the GTX560 is not like a GTX570 which has 15 SMs and a 32/1 ratio. The performance gulf between the cards is massive.

GPUGrid crunchers should get a GTX570 and avoid the GTX560, GTS550 and any other 48/1 (shader to SM) ratio cards that follow.

Hello: 266.66 driver is actually the 265 with arrangements to work with the new 560Ti not be if this could be the problem. Best regards.

Yes, the 266.66 is the only one for 560Ti, Einstein CUDA 3.2 task run, PG tpsieve CUDA 2.3 too (manual PSA). Other drivers did not find a GPU.
OK now got two tasks.
