Hello,

It\'s me again ..... :)

Today i hooked up my 2nd PS3

On PS3 Console No1 - USB Live
On PS3 Console No2 - USB Live

Both are the same versions -

When i take a look at my account it\'s only showing that i have just the 1 PS3 & not the 2 that are currently running PS3grid/boinc.

I note that the computer name for the 1st PS3 is showing as live - i assume that as the 2nd PS3 is identical to the 1st one.

- Then this would also show as live ?

- could this be the reason why only the one is listed as the computer names are identical ?

-The system can\'t tell them appart ?

How do i alter the computer consoles name from the default ( live ) to whatever ?

Using a normal PC i know how to do the above but being a linux virgin & PS3 user & crunching neewbie - I\'m stuck....

The last time i even touched a games console or even played a game for that matter was a:

DRAGON 32 - The game was Horrace Goes Skiing !

Those were the days - lol :)

Kind Regards,

John

I\'ve already run into this problem and GDF was suppose to be working on a fix.

Currently with the \'live\' version you cannot change the host name or the IP address. Most of the live system is read only and the password is not avaialble.

Even though they may be on your network with a different IP, linux assigns a local masked IP 127.0.1.1 in this case and this is what gets reported to the server, which thinks both PS3\'s are the same, every time one connects it cancels work on the server that the other PS3 is doing. You will not get credit for the work. This is a flaw in the design of this live version by making it read only.

The only way I got around it was to install YDL on one of the PS3\'s. The you have control over the system and can change the host name and the IP assigned. Mine is called PS301 and I made the IP 127.0.3.1 so as not to interfere with the IP on the live verison. You of course can install YDL on both and give them both different IP\'s. I left one on the live version.

This 127.X.X.X is not the IP assigned by your router. It is set in linux, I forget at the moment where, but it was under networking and something about aliases.

Well if you install YDL you don\'t have to change the internal IP, a different computer name is enough... I have YDL installed on 3 PS3s and never had to edit the loopback IP (or however it is called ;) )...

Hello,

Thanks for your support in this matter above...

I opened up the terminal typed in:
hostname & hit enter
answer = live
bla bla bla

couldnt alter set/save etc

tryed:
vi / etc / hostname

Couldn\'t alter it there & the system said you need to go root terminal.

As you stated the live version is read only so obviously i/we dont know what the password is ... ( where is the \"sod it/bugger it\" key on the key board lol )

Didn\'t bother doing

gedit / etc / hostname - No go need Password etc

If i install YDL V6 i can alter names there right ?
During set up ? or at a later date doing...
System - admin - network - general tab - enter whatever name in host field - click on ok - restart ?

Thanks for your help...

John

Yep, if you install YDL 6 you can choose a computer name during the setup...
I think to remember that you can choose it during the network setup where you also choose how you get your IP (manually or by DHCP), in this step you can set up the computer name.

[edit] Ooops... this remembered me that I wanted to update the install instructions for YDL 6... I\'ll try to do it tomorrow and send the update to GDF...
