With any luck, in less than 24 hours I will be the proud parent of a ps/3.

Unfortunately, it\'s home environment will be lacking both ethernet connectivity (wi-fi only), and hdmi (analog tv, with composite in\'s).

Will I be able to install YDL and Boinc under these conditions?

I thought I understood that HDMI was required, for resolution purposes, for YDL install.

And ethernet, was that only required for the pen-drive linux install, not full YDL? Full YDL can do wi-fi?

Wi-fi is not available. But you can use a wireless router as a bridge into your wi-fi network. I can\'t answer the HDMI question completely but strictly speaking once you install YDL and setup your own boinc account (there is a default generic account already setup) you don\'t actually need a display. You only need to tell the PS3 to reboot using YDL and it will do its thing without needing any user input. The disadvantage is you\'ll need to do a hard reset (finger on power button till it beeps twice) and will loose any non-default PS3 settings when it reboots into the PS3.

Ok boys and girls. Was expecting one baby, and I got twins !!!

So, two PS/3\'s, still in their boxes. Gonna try and install YDL and Boinc over the weekend. No ethernet, no hdmi/dvi display. Just wi-fi and analog tv with composite in\'s.

Hope all goes well, otherwise I\'ll be posting here alot in the next 48 hours!

Got the important stuff:
PS/3\'s
ups
dvd iso of ydl
usb hub
usb flash drive
usb kb
usb mouse

I wish you good luck, but when I tried to install YDL with the composite port, I was able to install YDL, but after the first boot I only got a blank screen.
As far as i know, YDL can only use the HDMI port of the PS3, but I may be wrong...

The good thing was that my TV has also a HDMI connnector... ;)

This is what I was afraid of. I thought I read somewhere that you have to enter something like \"480i\" when YDL boots, to get the proper video output for analog composite. But I could be completely mistaken about that.

Worse case scenario, I run F@H until either YDL can handle analog composite, or I get a hdmi/dvi display (no time soon, lol!).

Want to Boinc with PS3Grid, but if I can\'t, then I can\'t.

2 PS/3\'s will be at the ready.

EDIT --> Looks like you\'re 100% correct. YDL requires as mandatory either hdmi or the 5-pronged component cable. Will not work with s-video, or 3-pronged composite cable.

Looks like its F@H for me and my two ps/3\'s...

Will the next version of YDL modify that mandatory requirement?

As far as i know, YDL can only use the HDMI port of the PS3, but I may be wrong...

I ran some Folding for a while, and played some games. All this on a NON-HD TV with the composite cable that came with the PS3.

Then, I went the converter box route. I bought the \"X2VGA2\" from NEOYA (you need a Component cable (from Radio Shack)), and hooked my PS3 up to a standard 19\" LCD Monitor. Works great. It cost me around $80 (with shipping from China)....

Also used: A Sun usb keyboard, usb optical mouse

Then I loaded YDL and started crunching with the PS3 Boinc software.

EDIT: The Composite cable (that comes with the PS3) plugs into the \"A/V MULTI OUT\" socket on the PS3. The Component cable for the \"X2VGA2\" also uses that socket...

That sounds like a possible solution, thanx !!!

I\'m looking into it now...

I bought the \"X2VGA2\" from NEOYA
